Chris
Haynes of CSNNW.com reports that Portland Trail Blazers guard Wesley Matthews
told reporters on Friday that he received a Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
injection in his right ankle this offseason.
Matthews
shut down his 2012-13 season early after he sprained his right ankle.
Have you
been working out prior to surgery?
"I sat
a month. They told me to sit a month from when I messed my ankle up. And I
waited that whole time, surprisingly.. I got back to working out and I was slow
building back. Something just didn't feel right. Something didn't feel right
with my ankle, something didn't feel right with my elbow. So that's when I
reached out to [Head Trainer] Geoff [Clark] and we got the ball rolling."
How does
the ankle feel?
"It
feels better. I had a PRP injection."
Matthews
also discussed the recent arthroscopic debridement he underwent on his left
elbow. He said that his elbow "still hurts" and that he doesn't
believe it will require further attention.
"I'll
go back to see [the doctor] in two weeks. Hopefully get the stitches out, get
back shooting and in another couple of weeks from there, get cleared for
contact."
Matthews,
26, averaged 14.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals for the
Blazers last season.
Matthews
battled hip, ankle and elbow injuries last season. He appeared in 69 games and
had his three-plus year Ironman streak snapped in December.
